I think early Sunfires and late Cavaliers in 2 door configuration we're hot exterior wise.
Too bad the interior sucks and the domestic rice nation ruined them. And the 2.2L engine sounded like nothing 4 cylinderish, more like a weird alien sound. The concepts we're great!

Confession: I owned, and liked, a 1987 Cavalier. My friend had a 1993 that we hooned the SHIT out of. I sold more red Sunfires than any other vehicle.
Well, maybe not any other vehicle. Sold a lot of red Grand Ams too.

Cavaliers, yes. But the Sunfire just looks awkward.

Your secret is safe. Here on the internet. For everyone to make fun of. Wait...
I'm with you on the Sunfire, when I was younger I sort of wanted one of those. The Cavalier, not so much.

Old GM confession: I owned (and secretly miss) a '99 Saturn SC2. I'd like to own one again someday but swap a Cobalt SS motor in it...

I tried to convince my dad to get a Grand Am back in 1999-2000 after seeing a review of it on Motorweek. It failed but we had a 1997 Sunfire GTX in red. It turned into a shitty car thanks to lack of love, but damn it worked for years with nothing more to ask than an oil and filter change.

I liked the odd shape. Very concept like.

I have arbitrary distinctions.
Cavalier: Ew.
Sunfire: Oooh.

The last gen cavalier though was hideous. Ditto the sunfire. How bad do I think they are? Well let's just start with this - First, it was beat with the ugly stick. Then kicked by the ugly foot, out of the ugly tree, where it hit every ugly branch on the ugly trip down. Then it was tied with the ugly rope, to the ugly bumper, of the ugly truck. Where it was then dragged 50 ugly mile down ugly street.

Same here, but ask me now and I would probably not buy one. Let's see in 30 years though.

Mine are the opposite. Cavalier: I like them so much I actually bought one.
Sunfire: Looks like a blob.

hahahhahaaha. I agree on that, it's too bad because they did great with this and didn't make it a production car.
It would definitely had sold MUCH more with these bumpers!

For their time, they were widely regarded by the motoring press as good-looking cars. I still think they're good-looking, until you hit about MY2000, when the Shitfire got body cladded into oblivion. The Cavalier still looked good until the 2003 facelift.
But everything else about the last J-cars was absolutely terrible. No question about it.

My younger bro has an Opel Vectra, er, LS1. Possibly less shameful because not really Saturn, but I've told him he needs to do a Saab 9-5 turbo V-6 swap into it.

I think, I agree with you on the Cavalier in the end....I thought I kinda liked the new front end but I forgot about the rear.

You know, back in the days you would ask me to see if I like it and I would say no. Now, I kinda like it.

I used to own one like this. Commuted 73 miles each way. Got 39 MPG on premium. 35 on regular.

Anything with balls would work! This car had zero pick-up thanks to 120hp. It's so light, a 200-250hp swap would make it seriously quick!

The Saturn L, as it was a on a global and badge-engineered platform, would accept the Saab 9-5 drivetrain contemporary to it as (I believe) pretty much a bolt up. It was even offered with a related V6 as the LS2. Put the Saab turbo meant for a much heavier version of the platform in it, and it would be a rocket.
Where have all the lightweights gone?

My parents have a '99 Sunfire convertible with about 150k on the clock, and the only thing that's gone majorly wrong is a broken shifter cable.

That's quite a see-through rear wheel well.
Also, that's a huge McDonald's.
